And the Blue White Army supporters group are aiming to play their part by encouraging fellow fans to bring along their U’s scarves, in a bid to generate a sea of blue and white at the game.

The fan-funded tifo group want to create a visual spectacle to savour, at the Community Stadium.

They said: “We’ve had a really good response on social media and it’s given us a really good platform, ahead of the weekend.

“The project is to build something for the supporters to be proud of and for them to embrace it.

“The club’s been very supportive and they’ve been fully behind it.

“Scarves are a really good, under-valued visual part of football culture.

“When you see 200 or 300 scarves being twirled around in the air at once, it’s visually impressive.”

The BWA relaunched last summer and have been aiming to boost the Community Stadium matchday atmosphere.

The voluntary U’s supporter group have had a consistent presence in the South Stand this season with their flags, banners and displays at U's home games.

And the Cowleys’ appointment last week has given everyone an extra lift, ahead of the Bradford clash.

“Everyone feels a lot more positive about the football club, especially when you see the game away at Swindon Town and the atmosphere there,” they added.

“Results on the pitch and other factors have led to a build-up of negativity outside the football club.
