A FARM shop tearoom has announced it has made the “regretful” decision to close its doors due to increasing costs.
The Forget Me Not Tearooms based at Tom’s Farm Shop, Tiptree, revealed the news on social media.
Bosses said the decision was “not easy” but added the rising costs made it “impossible” to maintain its high standards.
They also added it would be “unfair” on customers to increase prices.
A spokesman said: “The decision has not been easy, but with our lease coming to an end, escalating staffing costs, soaring food prices and exorbitant energy bills, it has made it all but impossible to maintain the high standards of service to which we have always been committed.
“And as everyone will appreciate, the Covid pandemic also presented a significant challenge, arriving as it did when we had been trading for barely a year.
“We feel it would be an unfair burden on our loyal customers if we were to increase our prices to meet these costs, which has left us with no alternative but to close our doors.”
The business also said it was “proud” of its achievements and thanked its staff, customers and families for their support.
The statement said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to every team member who has worked for us in the past. Forget Me Not would never have succeeded without you.
“As cherished members of the Forget Me Not family they have always been more than simply staff.
“To our wonderful customers, we extend our deep gratitude.
“You have been supportive, made us laugh and given us reassuring hugs when we needed them.
“You have made our little business something we will forever look back on with joy.
“We also can never give enough thanks to our family and friends who have literally stood by our side.
“They have not only felt every high and low, but they have been there, without ever having to ask them, cheering on the tearooms or holding us up.
“We love you all deeply.
“So, to everyone who has been a part of the Forget Me Not Tearooms story for the past five years, thank you for allowing us to feed, water and serve you, and for being part of our journey.
“Your company has meant the world to us.
“We hope to see you all again in whatever new adventures await us all.”
