AN air ambulance landed near a busy road while firefighters freed a driver after an Army vehicle crashed into a tree.
The emergency services were called after reports an Army vehicle had smashed into a tree in Berechurch Hall Road, Colchester, this morning.
Pictures seen by the Gazette show police, firefighters, and ambulance service vehicles in the busy road after the crash at about 10.30am today.
No-one is believed to have sustained serious of life changing injuries.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called just after 10.20am with reports that a truck had hit a tree on Berechurch Hall Road, in Colchester.
"An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene where they were assisted by colleagues from the fire and rescue service.
"The patient, an adult man, was assessed at the scene and did not require transportation to hospital."
A spokesman for the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were called to the scene and confirmed one vehicle hit a tree, leading to fire crews working to free one trapped casualty.
Berechurch councillor Dave Harris said his thoughts were with anyone involved in the crash, adding he is “concerned” about the safety of motorists on Berechurch Hall Road.
He said: "Berechurch Hall Road is a road I am concerned about because of speeding and delays to install a new pedestrian crossing, though I'm sure Army vehicles don't speed and it sounds like this was an accident."
Mr Harris has previously complained about delays in introducing a pedestrian crossing in Berechurch Hall Road.
Housebuilder Persimmon Homes, which is responsible for the proposed crossing, previously told the Gazette it is working with Essex Highways to obtain permission for works to begin.
Essex County Council’s traffic control team confirmed on the social media platform X that the incident, which was close to the road’s junction with Roman Way, was cleared just before 12.30pm.
An spokesman for the Ministry of Defence confirmed the Army is aware of this morning’s incident.
