Police have confirmed teenage school children were injured after a bus crashed into a sign. 

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the crash on the A1071 near Polstead at about 5pm on Tuesday. 

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said a double decker bus left the road and collided with a road sign before coming to a rest in a field. 

The school bus was carrying teenage children at the time of the crash, they confirmed.

Four teenagers were taken to hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. 

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Five ambulances, three ambulance office vehicles and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Polstead yesterday evening following reports of a bus involved in road traffic collision."

The road was closed as emergency services attended to the incident and reopened at 8.55pm.

Any witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those with dash cam footage, are asked to contact the roads and armed policing team quoting reference CAD 232 of January 23.
