FORMER Colchester United favourite Kevin Watson is back in coaching.

Watson, who made more than 100 appearances for the U's, has been named assistant manager at National League South side Welling United.

The ex-Spurs midfielder will be number two to former Braintree Town and Chelmsford City boss Rod Stringer at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium.

The duo have been tasked with steering the Wings away from relegation danger, with the South-East London side currently 22nd in the National League South table.

The duo will be in the dugout for the first time tonight when their new team host Hampton and Richmond Borough.

Watson had an excellent playing career making more than 400 appearances for the likes of Spurs, Colchester, Swindon Town and Rotherham United.

He was a key figure in the Colchester side that won promotion to the Championship under Phil Parkinson, in 2006.

The A Licence coach then helped Colchester finish tenth in their first season in the Championship, under Geraint Williams.

Watson was released at the end of the 2007-08 season and signed on a free transfer for Luton Town.

He has since had spells in charge of the likes of Bishop's Stortford, Billericay Town and Ebbsfleet United and was assistant manager to Teddy Sheringham, at Stevenage.
