A PETROL station in Colchester has announced is going completely cashless this year.

Supermarket giant Asda will only be accepting cards at its forecourt at the Turner Rise Retail Park by the end of the summer.

Asda says its supermarkets will continue to accept cash and card payments.

A spokesman said: “The majority of customers who use our drive-thru superstore fuel stations use pay at the pump and over 90 per cent of all payments are made on a card or contactless device.

“More than half of our drive-thru sites are already unmanned, and we are moving the remaining colleagues who work in the kiosk into the adjacent store so they can better serve customers.”

The Asda petrol station in Colchester is not the only location in the east of England set to go cashless, with its sites in Ipswich, Norwich, and Great Yarmouth also making the change.
