A COLCHESTER care home is trying to collect 100 cards for a resident's milestone birthday.

Iris Bell, a resident of Welshford Manor Care Home, in Welshford Park Road, will be turning 100 years old on February 15.

Bosses at the care home are now appealing to the public to send 100 birthday cards in for her birthday.

The carer said: "We would love for everyone to help us here at Welshwood Manor by sending her a 100th birthday card and join us in celebrating this magnificent milestone.

"Hopefully we will get to the magic 100 number of cards."

Royal Mail has agreed to keep all letters addressed to Iris at the sorting office before dropping them off at the care home all at once on the day.

A carer at the home said: "Iris was born in Colchester and has lived in the city all her life and has been at Welshwood Manor care home for the past nine years.

"She is a complete joy to look after as she is always so happy. Iris is very independent she has only just recently stopped making her own bed."

A party will also be thrown for the soon-to-be 100-year-old, with singer Penny Tall singing songs from Iris' era.

Letters can be addressed to Iris Bell at Welshford Manor Care Home, 37 Welshford Park Road, Colchester, CO4 3HZ.
