A MAN was attacked and his television was damaged after a burglar broke into his home during the early hours of the morning.

Essex Police officers were called to Morten Road, in Colchester, at about 8.30am this morning after reports of an aggravated burglary.

The break-in is believed to have occurred six hours prior at about 2.30am.

The victim reported a person had entered his property and attacked him before causing damage to his television.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Enquiries remain ongoing and officers have been in the area today carrying out house to house visits."

One resident, who has asked to remain anonymous, says they have been left shaken-up by news of the incident.

They said: "There was a forensics car at the bottom of the road and I had the police knock at my door.

"I asked if everyone was okay but they just said it had been a 'very traumatic experience for some people'.

"It didn't sound good."

The latest incident in north Colchester comes after a man was robbed at knifepoint in North Station Road back in December.

According to the police, he was threatened with a knife before being robbed of an undisclosed sum of cash in the middle of the afternoon.
