A NEW motorbiking group wants to bring the community together in Colchester and Essex as well as increasing knowledge, safety, and skills.
James Chambers, 27, said he founded the ‘Colchester Motorbike Group’ in January this year to help himself and others find friends with the shared passion of motorbikes and motorsports.
James explained a main purpose of the Facebook group, which has 123 members as of writing, is to be a forum where people can receive advice and practical help, and said: “I have already spoken to a couple who is going to help me learn the gears with a bigger bike.
“There’s not enough for the younger generation at the moment, it is nice to get the ‘older’ generation helping the younger generation, passing knowledge and increasing safety.”
The group, which is open to all categories of bikes including scooters and bigger bikes, is having its first event this weekend – a Sunday ride to Burnham on Crouch.
The ride, which would take about an hour, is weather permitting and would involve a visit to The Cabin Dairy Café and Tearooms, meaning the group can socialise.
James works as a senior carer for the elderly at a residential care home in Chelmsford and revealed that the residents, particularly some of the men with dementia, were always very intrigued to see him bringing his motor vehicle to work.
Another aspect of the group, which is enabled through social media is the ability to share funeral notices on the page meaning group members can “pay their respects” by arranging group rides.
A further element of the group would be to attend bike shows in and near Essex, which James says can also in the future inspire the group to host their own shows.
As a fun and optional idea, to bring group members together James has started to create merchandise including hoodies and stickers of varying sizes for either helmets or vehicles.
Some items, particularly hoodies, have already being bought with the group’s graphics being created by designer ‘Sharpie’ from the Yorkshire-based OC graphics.
The group is open to all ages with the aim of brining everyone in Colchester and surrounding areas with the shared passion of motorbiking together.
