A man was stabbed and suffered two "wounds to his arm" during an incident Colchester city centre last night.

Residents reported seeing a large police presence near Greggs on Long Wyre Street shortly after 11pm last night. 

After reports that a man had been stabbed, Essex Police confirmed that the victim suffered two wounds to his arm however the force is yet to confirm what weapon was used during the incident. 

The man has received medical treatment and Essex Police say the wounds are neither “life-threatening nor life changing”.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody.

Police have stated both people involved in the incident are "known to each other" and there is no threat to the wider public, however an additional police presence will be visible in the city centre throughout this morning. 

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were alerted to an incident in Long Wyre Street, Colchester, shortly after 11pm last night, Saturday 17 February. 

"During the incident, a man sustained two wounds to his arm which, thankfully, are neither life-threatening nor life changing. He has received medical treatment.

"A woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody. 

"At this stage, we believe both people involved are known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public in any way.

"There will be an ongoing police presence in the area throughout this morning, Sunday 18 February, whilst the investigation progresses.

Update:

A spokesperson from East of England Ambulance Services said: "One ambulance and one ambulance vehicle was sent to Wyre Street Colchester on Saturday evening following reports that a man had been stabbed."

"No hospital transport was required."
