AN Essex yacht club has made it to the finals of a national awards ceremony.
Colne Yacht Club is recognised in the 'Active Club of the Year' category of the RYA Club of the Year Awards, supported by Gallagher.
The club is one of 14 finalists across the UK.
A series of initiatives connect Colne to its local community and provide easy access to yachting for beginners.
Its services include a training centre and Sonata Activity Groups.
These groups give newcomers the chance to learn alongside experienced skippers.
A recent fundraiser has enabled the purchase of a new Hunter Sonata yacht to facilitate club expansion.
Jane Long, a club member, said: "CYC Members are delighted that the activities of many dedicated volunteers are recognised.
"Our Sonatas in particular are creating many opportunities for newcomers, Women on the Water, and cadets to learn new skills.
"Our Sonata keelboat training scheme attracts many who always wanted to sail and now have found a means to fulfil that ambition."
The final announcement for the club's category, as well as the overall Club of the Year, will be made at the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show.
The event is set to take place at Farnborough International on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
