An independent builders' merchant will create 20 new jobs in Colchester as it opens its 125th branch next month.
MKM Building Supplies, a leading independent builders merchant in the UK, will open the branch to the public on March 4 with former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton on hand to formally cut the ribbon at 9am.
MKM’s mascot and representatives from St Helena Hospice and Bright Lives, the firm’s chosen charities, will also attend.
The 30,000 sq ft branch will supply well-known brands to tradespeople and the public.
The new branch directors, Neil Robinson and Shaun Webb, both have roots in the local community and extensive industry experience.
Mr Robinson said: "I’ve lived in Colchester for 34 years, and it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to lead a business in an area I love.
"There’s real community spirit here and both Shaun and I are determined that the new MKM Colchester branch will be an extension of that.
"To locals, we want to be the ‘big yellow building down the road’ and our customers can always expect us to be welcoming, helpful and provide the products and services they need.
Meanwhile, Mr Webb, a Colchester resident of more than 29 years, said: "At the heart of the new MKM Colchester branch lies a commitment to excellence and a unique customer experience that sets us apart.
"We’ll go the extra mile wherever possible, with options for same day delivery, curtain side deliveries, smaller lorries for restricted areas and even out of hours deliveries if requested."
