ACTORS are getting ready to tread the boards for the world premiere of a new play at a theatre in Colchester.
Two Come Home will premiere at the Lakeside Theatre at Essex University’s Colchester campus on Friday before going on a fringe festival tour across the country.
The play is set in a small ex-mining town in Kentucky and follows the journey of a young man whose sexuality stays hidden in the shadows of his small town.
Joe Eason plays the lead character, Evan, and wrote the music, while the play is directed by Noah Alfred Pantano, who moved to Colchester from Florida to complete a PhD in theatre at the university.
Noah said: “This is the most gripping drama I've ever directed. The musicians add such atmosphere to the story with Joe's haunting score.”
The play has a queer creative team and queer characters and it deals with the harsh realities of being gay in an impoverished rural community.
The cast includes Colchester-based actress Nicola Goodchild who was recently seen in five episodes of the BBC’s soap opera Doctors.
“Playing the head of midwifery in Doctors couldn't be further from Amy Nicholson in Two Come Home,” she said.
