THE FAMILY of a beloved Essex pub landlord are selling up after the “driving force” behind its success tragically passed away.

Tyler Pearmain bought the Waeccer in Great Wakering with brother Jody, wife Keri and sister-in-law Lori in 2019. Sadly, he passed away following a battle with a cancer in February last year, aged 44.

Since then, his family have continued to run the pub, with Lori taking the helm.

However, the Pearmains are now preparing to move on and “let someone else have a chance at running it”.

Jody Pearmain, 48, said: “Tyler passed away a year ago last week. He was the main driving force at the pub. Without him, it’s just not been the same.

“That, along with the fact the market for pubs isn’t great at the moment, is why we’ve decided it’s someone else’s turn to run it.

“We’ve worked hard to get people to come to the pub, and we’ve been successful. But it’s taken a lot of energy.

“Tyler was the main person who had that enthusiasm him.

“I’ve got two young children and I want to spend time with them, especially after what happened. I don’t want to be down the pub every day.”

Formerly known as the Anchor, the pub reopened as the Waeccer in 2019, named after a Saxon tribe believed to have first settled in the village.

It is known for its stylish décor, food, speciality drinks and “fantastic” beer garden with a children’s play area, making it ideal for families.

Jody said: “We’ve got loads of great memories of family parties, music festivals, and even the charity events we ran for Tyler. Despite the unfortunate reasons, we still had some fun.

“It will be a sad day when we leave. But now it’s time for someone with fresh enthusiasm to come in and take it to the next level.

“I would like to thank our great and loyal customers for their support over the years. We’ve had a really good time, although it ended sadly, but we have such good memories. I don’t regret it.”
