A MAN has been charged with a series of offences after a woman was reportedly strangled and sexually assaulted in north Essex.
Essex Police was alerted to an alleged attack on Wednesday, February 28.
A woman had reported being strangled and sexually assaulted on Mersea Island.
Officers from a number of teams across the force were involved in the response to the incident and the subsequent investigation.
Following the alleged incident, Nicolas Dimopoulos, of Empress Avenue, West Mersea, has been charged with rape, intentional strangulation and attempted GBH.
The 30-year-old appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court today, Friday, March 1, and was remanded into custody to appear at a hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on March 28.
Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hutchinson said: “Our specialist teams work determinedly to tackle violence against women and girls in all its forms.
“This is a significant step forward in this investigation and the teams will continue their work, not only to ensure anyone we believe to be committing acts of violence against women and girl is dealt with, but also to help and support all victims who come forward to us.”
