Colchester Council is looking for two volunteers to ensure elected members uphold standards of conduct.
The 'Independent Persons' will be part-time roles, providing support to the council’s monitoring officer and governance and audit committee.
The selected individuals will be involved in overseeing complaints against councillors or co-opted members and advising the relevant parties as complaints are processed.
Candidates interested in the role do not need to possess legal qualifications or previous experience in the same capacity.
Key to being successful in this role will be a comprehensive understanding of the public sector, readiness to serve the local community, and a track record of applying and maintaining standards.
Objectivity, impartiality, and integrity are fundamental prerequisites, as the role involves ensuring high standards of conduct and ethical behaviour.
It's essential for applicants to be available for evening meetings.
The role is described as not being time-consuming and is well suited for individuals with job flexibility or those seeking to contribute to promoting the highest standards of behaviour in the public sector in their free time.
For further information or to apply, an information pack can be requested at democratic.services@colchester.gov.uk.
The application deadline is Monday, March 18, with interviews commencing the week of Monday, March 25.
