Colchester's Labour Party has revealed its strategy for gaining more seats in the upcoming local elections.
At the party’s campaign launch on Saturday, March 16, Labour Group leader, Councillor Julie Young, said: "We understand the things that matter to Colchester residents, and we are ready to step up to the challenge.
"Colchester is a welcoming place to live and work but it could be so much better.
"Over the last 14 years, our council has experienced huge funding cuts and the sad truth is that the Conservative government just doesn’t value good local public services.
"We’re working hard to turn things around."
The party's 2024 manifesto for the May 2 polls contains five pledges addressing homes, jobs, community, street safety and cityscape.
This includes a call on the Conservative-controlled Essex County Council to allow Colchester responsibility for pothole repairs on roads and pavements, claiming this would provide speedy and efficient resolutions.
The Labour Group also vows to build or upgrade a playpark in each community and implement stricter monitoring for improved standards in private rented housing.
Lee Scordis, deputy leader of the Colchester Labour Group, said: "Labour councillors are on your side.
"We offer support for all residents by holding regular surgeries, by responding to local issues and by communicating through newsletters and social media."
