With the news Colchester Carnival could return to the city this summer, we have decided to take a step back in time to have a look at what happened at previous events.
The last carnival took place on September 14, 2019, after the Covid pandemic put the festivities on halt.
In previous years, the colourful parade, boasting floats and costumes, proved a huge highlight in the city's events calendar.
Old and young dressed up as popular characters from TV shows and movies and entertained the masses of residents who flocked to High Street.
The extravaganza has always been organised by volunteers, who put in hours of work and commitment to ensure the festival is a success.
The carnival committee is guided by the principle to create a day filled with fun, sound, colour and activity, involving a cross-section of Colchester's diverse community.
Clubs, businesses, organisations, schools and community groups all previously joined the parade and are encouraged to do so this year as well.
Anyone interested in getting involved can share their ideas with the Colchester Carnival team.
