A POPULAR running event which was cancelled last year is set to make a return to Colchester with a new name.
The annual Paras'10 run is a gruelling ten-mile endurance race based on a route completed by soldiers in the Parachute Regiment's P Company test week.
However, last year the organisers confirmed the event, which has raised about £1.6million for the military community, will not be going ahead this year.
The 11th edition of the race was due to be staged in May before the plug was pulled due to soldiers being taken away from Colchester to perform their jobs in a humanitarian role overseas.
In its place, bosses have designed a brand new race, which still has the same military and gruelling feel as the Paras'10.
The all-new Roman Rampage race will be making its way to Colchester on March 22, 2025.
A spokesman for the event said: "We promised we'd look at offering an alternative and here it is.
"A gruelling all-terrain course through the heart of Britain's oldest recorded city and the Roman River, this event will leave you with that Paras'10 feelings you all know and love, and sore legs.
"Through the magic of good prep, we've even managed to make the course just over three miles, so if you take on the full three loops, you'll be covering a ten-mile course by the end of it."
Colchester MP Will Quince, who qualified as an Army reservist last year, is among the keen runners hoping to take on the challenge next year.
He said: "It's great news this hugely popular event is coming back to Colchester.
"It's unlike any other running event because it's usually cross-country and there's a competitive element, although lots of people run it for fun, with their dogs, and with their families."
Mr Quince is also taking on this year's London Marathon and completed the Colchester Half Marathon earlier this month.
Paras'10 was originally founded by WO1 JJ Wilson in 1982 and was hosted by The Parachute Regiment in Aldershot until 1993.
Runners will be able to sign up for the event later this year. For more information, visit paras10.com.
