COLCHESTER'S Layer Marney Tower will host a fundraiser in aid of Parkinson's Disease with Guy Deacon CBE.
The explorer and prominent Parkinson's campaigner will take part in Running on Empty at the iconic venue on April 29.
During the event he will be interviewed by Richard Charrington.
They will discuss an overland odyssey carried out by Mr Deacon, from the UK to South Africa, which lasted more than three years spanning 18,000 miles across 25 countries.
The purpose of the journey, coupled with experiencing five breakdowns and an emergency evacuation, was to raise awareness about Parkinson's.
In addition, Mr Deacon managed his own diagnosis throughout, consuming 3,650 prescription pills along the route.
The fundraising event, scheduled from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, is open to all and ticket prices stand at £20.
The proceeds will go toward supporting Parkinson's research.
Attendees at the event will also have the opportunity to purchase a copy of Mr Deacon's book, Running on Empty.
The profits from the book sale will also be directed towards Parkinson's charities.
Mr Deacon's story is also set to feature in a documentary on Channel 4 in July.
Now 60, he has now battled Parkinson's for over 10 years.
