AN amateur drama group is set to return for its spring production of a famous drama-comedy which was previously brought to the big screen.
The Earls Colne-based Stane Street Players will be putting on a spring production of Alan Bennett’s The Lady In The Van at the village hall, in York Road.
The play is based on Bennett’s encounters with an eccentric elderly lady called Mary Shepherd after he moved to a Camden suburb in the 1970s.
A film was released in 2015 and starred renowned actor Dame Maggie Smith as Mary.
A spokesman for the Stane Street Players said: “This gentle comedy documents the life of Miss Mary Teresa Shepherd - a 'rank, rude, car-mad cow' who drove her Bedford van on to famous writer Alan Bennett's drive under the promise of only being there for a few months but ultimately stayed there for 15 years.
“Our Friday Night performance has sold out but tickets are still available for the Saturday matinee and evening performances on May 18.”
The Saturday performances start at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £12 and can be purchased at ticketsource.co.uk/stane-street-players.
Alternatively, you can call the TicketSource box office on 0333 666 3366.
