On Wednesday the 24th of April, Chigwell School hosted their annual careers convention. The event spanned from 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock. The aim is to “provide [students] with the opportunity to talk to representatives from a variety of employment areas and higher education” -Headmaster of Chigwell School. This event even included Old Chigwellians, pupils who used to attend Chigwell School.

The evening enatiled a mix of companies and representatives, available for students to talk to. I talked to ‘SP Jain London School of Management,’ who believes that “If business is global, then your degree should be too.” This school provides students with the opportunity to study not only London but Dubai, Singapore and Sydney, enabling pupils to travel and learn about a variety of cultures. I love the idea of studying and travelling, as I would love to visit different parts of the world.

I also visited a GP stand. Where I learnt all about the depositing of medicine, and how vital it is to ensure people take the correct medication as well as the right dosage. I found this stand very interactive and engaging, as there were games linked to checking someone’s medication and recognising errors. Personally, I would not like to go into medicine, but I still find it very inspiring that those in the medical field are constantly helping others.

Representatives from Tooley Foster 1892 Ltd Architects also attended the event. I was eager to talk to this company, as architecture is a pathway I am considering. Tooley Foster is ‘one of the oldest architectural practises in the UK.’ The company includes experts who specialise in architecture and design.

Members from Red Lion Chambers also attended the event.  Red Lion Chambers is a criminal law firm. When at this stand, I spoke with barristers who enlightened me about the various duties involved in being a barrister.  The field is very exhilarating, as it is ultimately the barristers' decision whether the accused is guilty or not.

Other important stands to mention were Niche Public Relations and Marsh Insurance Brokers. I personally found these stands really inspiring.
