MASSIVE potholes in a Colchester road which are causing problems for motorists have been slammed as "disgraceful".

Barn Hall Avenue was resurfaced roughly ten years ago but is now once again said to be crumbling away.

Critics of the works claim the materials which were used to repair the road, which is also a bus route, were incorrect.

They also say any repairs which are carried out last only a matter of days.

Lee Scordis, county councillor for Abbey Division said: “ Since before I was elected the state of Barn Hall Avenue has been disgraceful.

“Despite petitions and evidence regularly sent in, I am constantly told it is not a priority.

"Potholes which are repaired are done on the cheap and crumble away within a matter of days.”

Mr Scordis says he has been told on multiple occasions potholes are not a priority for Essex County Council.

He also says councillors were given the opportunity to nominate 15 potholes across their area for repair last year, but he is still awaiting action in Barn Hall Avenue.

Mr Scordis added: “Over half my allocation went on one road, Barn Hall Avenue.

"I am now told we will have to wait until June for these potholes I allocated last year to be repaired.

"This is what happens when you have a Conservative council running a deliberate policy of managed decline."

Bosses at Essex Highways have now said the potholes are due to be inspected shortly.

A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “We have received a request for road repairs in this area from the local council member, which is due to be inspected by the relevant team.

“We have to schedule repairs in advance in order to maximise our limited resources, however all requests are inspected fully with the appropriate actions taken.”
