A POPULAR fun day held by a Colchester radio station is set to return this May Bank Holiday.

Final preparations are underway for this year’s Hospital Radio Colchester Fun Day, which takes place on May 27.

The Fun Day is a major fundraiser for Hospital Radio Colchester and has been a regular event for many years in Lower Castle Park.

Last year the radio station celebrated its 60th anniversary, having started in 1963.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day in the site's large main area including:

  • Tendring Dog Agility Group
  • Rock Choir
  • ILAZ Dance Company
  • Thurstable School Cheerleaders
  • Adult and Children's magic with DanDealo
  • Hospital Radio Colchester Roadshow
  • Children's Games and much more.

Funfair rides, bouncy castles, trampolines, fairground stalls and stalls from many local charities and trades will all be in attendance.

The event will also once again host the 2024 Colchester Lucky Duck event, which is being organised by the Rotary Club of Colchester Forum.

Entry to the event, which opens at 11am and runs until 4pm, is just £5 for adults, with accompanied children free. There is a large free car park off Cowdray Avenue.

Andy Patrick, manager of Hospital Radio Colchester, said: “Hospital Radio Colchester has hosted an event in Castle Park for many years in various formats.

"This is our main fundraising event of the year, and we are really looking forward to welcoming a large crowd for the event, with our fingers crossed for some good weather on the day.

"Our aim is to provide a great value day out for all the family and this year we have plenty of things to do and see for all the family.

"It’s always great to see the park packed with families from Colchester and the surrounding area.”

Staffed entirely by volunteers, Hospital Radio Colchester broadcasts to patients, staff, and visitors at Colchester Hospital.
