TWO people were rushed to hospital after a crash involving three cars at a busy junction.

The East of England Ambulance Service sent three vehicles to the junction of Magdalen Street, Barrack Street, Brook Street, and Wimpole Road in Colchester after receiving reports of a crash at about 7.45pm on Sunday.

An eyewitness told the Gazette they’d seen a total of seven emergency service vehicles at the busy junction and that the roads re-opened at about 9.30pm.

“The railings and traffic lights were totally mangled,” they said.

A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed: “We were called just before 7.45pm on Sunday, May 19 to a road traffic collision on the junction of Magdalen Street and Barrack Street in Colchester.

“An ambulance, rapid response vehicle and ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene.

“Two people were transported to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Essex Police has been contacted for comment by the Gazette.
