MORE than 100 stylish motorcyclists have raised thousands of pounds for charity after cruising along Colchester’s High Street.
Frank’s Motorcycles, in Turkey Cock Lane, took part in The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, a worldwide charity event which started in Australia, on Sunday.
It has proven to be such a popular fundraiser that the event takes place in more than 700 cities and more than 121 countries around the world.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride raises funds and awareness for men’s mental health and prostate cancer, two extremely important topics close to the hearts of the team at Frank’s Motorcycles.
Last Sunday, the Colchester motorcycle business gathered 134 dapperly dressed riders together before they rode through the High Street on vintage motorcycles.
Jon Stevens, the managing director of Frank’s Motorcycles, is thrilled the business managed to raise £14,626 in total for The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.
Jon said: “We had a really good turnout; the weather was fantastic.
“We were surprised by the people down the High Street cheering, clapping, and taking photos, it was overwhelming.
“We had amazing support from Essex Police as well.
“We’ve been looking at social media after the event, I’m quite humble about it, one comment said we are ‘an absolute credit to the Colchester motorcycle scene’.
“We just want to bring biking to the community.”
Frank's Motorcycles was named after Jon’s father after he passed away 25 years ago.
According to Jon, the business is his way to honour Frank’s memory, as well as keep his charitable spirit alive.
Since August 2022, Frank’s Motorcycles has offered motorcycles, servicing, clothes, and parts, as well as a safe space for men to enjoy “an ear to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to go out for a blast” with.
Jim Smith, who provides showroom support for Frank’s Motorcycles after 35 years in the ambulance services, previously shared his excitement for the event and the business.
Jim said: “The whole firm really is Jon’s vision and passion.
“We want to provide for people the best experience we possibly can, whether it’s when buying motorcycles, having their bikes serviced, or more social events.”
After the High Street event finished, the bikers headed back to a showroom for some well-deserved afternoon tea.
