CONCERNS have been raised people parking on a busy Colchester city centre road have created an "accident waiting to happen."
Worried residents say vehicles on St Botolph’s Street can make it hard to tell when to cross the road.
It comes as a pedestrian in his 80s remains in a “serious condition” following a crash on the road at the weekend.
Essex Police say the man remains in a serious condition.
Two men, aged 18 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink.
They have since been bailed until July.
Speaking to the Gazette, city councillor Richard Kirkby-Taylor said it was “an incredibly regrettable incident.”
He said: “It’s unclear exactly what happened.
“It sounds like the man is recovering by he is still in a serious condition. My heart goes out to him, and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.
“The police are taking it very seriously and myself, Mark and Kemal are in regular contact with the Essex Police officer that’s dealing with it.”
Colchester residents said on Facebook there was “an accident waiting to happen” on St Botolph’s Street, with pedestrians often unable to view the road clearly due to build ups of parked cars.
Mr Kirkby-Taylor added: “People should not be parking along that road in the way that they are.
“It’s double yellows all around that patch and you still get people parking there, so I think we do need to get a better enforcement at making sure people don’t park there.
“It is a danger.”
A police probe has been launched, with officers appealing for information, witnesses or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash.
Any reports should quote incident number 644 of Sunday, May 19.
