A STAPLE city centre bar which closed down back in January is due to reopen tonight following a refurbishment.

Hudson House, which has been a big name in Colchester for several years, will welcome back customers from 7pm this evening.

The bar is being re-launched after undergoing a renovation to transform part of the venue into a sports bar just in time for the European Championship.

The re-design of the ground floor sees the introduction of a large central island bar with 13 large screen 4K televisions as well as private booths with their own screens.

The first floor of Hudson House also now has an informal and relaxed meeting space with additional television screens, luxurious sofas and lounge tables with its own dedicated bar service.

Another new addition to the venue is a social co-working space and show kitchen on the same floor as the bar, given customers a glimpse into the preparation of their food.

The kitchen will serve speciality smash burgers with aged beef, smokehouse wings and ribs, and an all American array of appetisers, all prepared with premium smokehouse equipment.

The venue will also be open for breakfast daily from 8.30am, offering a wholesome menu which will be served until noon with weekend brunch offers of complimentary hot drinks.

It is also hoped the development will create more employment within the community.

Ash Afzalnia, owner of the bar and the Elysium group, said: “Hudson has always been a well established bar in town and the company has always pushed the boundaries of what hospitality has to offer.

“This is a huge investment in Colchester, showing our commitment to the city where the company was founded 25 years ago.”

Hudson House previously had a tropical oasis theme with a gin library on the first floor and resident DJs.

The site was also home to Peruvian and Latin American Inca Restaurant, which aimed to combine flavours “with a contemporary twist”.

The bar area in Hudson House was previously refurbished in 2019 to offer bottomless pizza and a smokehouse and grill.

It was later refurbished in 2020 to offer a botanical-inspired bar with floral-printed chairs and foliage-adorned walls.

A spokesman for Hudson House added: "We look forward to welcoming all guests to enjoy Elysium Group’s latest offering."
