ROLLERSKATING fans were treated to an all-day skating event as a popular Colchester charity held an event.

The team behind Rollerworld collaborated with the Colchester Events company to bring another 80s vs 90s Skate Extravaganza to Charter Hall, in Cowdray Avenue.

Throughout the night there were multiple sessions available for roller skaters of all abilities, prizes, and money was raised for The Rollerworld Foundation.

There was a relaxed skate session from 11am to 12pm, an all ages-family disco with games and music from 12 to 5pm, and the Rollerworld 80s vs 90s Skate Extravaganza, from 7pm to 11.30pm for over 14s.

According to Rollerworld’s website, the relaxed session is the ideal choice for roller-skating newcomers, and people with sensory needs, disabilities or wheelchairs.

More than 30 tickets were given away to Women’s Refuge and the Colchester United Foundation in effort to ensure everyone has the chance to have fun.

A raffle was also held on the day and many prizes were donated by local businesses.

Rollerworld’s Anne and Jason Khan announced the Rollerworld Foundation back in November last year.

The charity will strive to promote the participation of skating sports in the city and protect and safeguard the future of the Rollerworld brand and what it stands for.

It’s also going to be used as a platform to raise funds in effort to establish a new Rollerworld after its former site,13 Moorside, was closed in 2022 due to rising rental costs for the unit.

Jason believes the bank holiday event was a successful and will contribute to getting the foundation one step closer to its goal.

He said: “Tonight has been another incredible success and we have raised more money towards our target of £1million to refit the new Rollerworld in Northern Gateway.

"Thanks to everyone that came and our volunteers for making it such an amazing day.

“It's a challenging target.

“But with two rinks on two floors, café, bar, skate shop plus the incredible support from so many amazing volunteers and exceptional and kind folks that loved Rollerworld, I'm sure we can achieve it.

"We would like to thank Councillor Martin Goss for coming down in support and also Sir Bob Russell for coming and his personal involvement as a Rollerworld Foundation trustee."

A crowdfunder has been setup for anyone who wishes to donate to the foundation.
