The RSPCA will host celebration for its 200th anniversary in Colchester, Lexden and Maldon in June.

Residents will come together for a day of festivities on June 15, as part of the RSPCA’s annual One Fun Day which will be held at more than 70 locations nationwide.

The RSPCA Essex Mid and North Branch will host three separate events.

The Colchester Clinic Fun Day will take place at its Harwich Road base from 11am until 3pm.

Visitors have the opportunity to meet the veterinary team, tour the operating and X-ray facilities, and talk to representatives from mayor Lesley Scott-Boutell’s five charities of the year.

There will also be stalls, games and refreshments.

Spokesman Derrick Yapp said: "We are extremely proud of these facilities and honoured to be included as one of mayor Lesley Scott-Boutell’s five mayoral charities of the year.

Mrs Scott-Boutell will formally open the event at around 1.30pm.

The RSPCA's Prettygate Road shop, in Lexden, and its Maldon shop will also host fun days with their own activities, including games, a tombola, refreshments and a cake sale.

This year’s One Fun Day not only marks the RSPCA's 200th anniversary but also provides an opportunity for communities to rally in support of the oldest animal welfare charity in the world.

Mr Yapp added: "It’s incredible to think that our charity has been helping animals for 200 years - making us the oldest animal welfare charity in the world.

"This is such an amazing feat and one that we can’t wait to celebrate with our supporters old and new at our one fun day events in Colchester, Prettygate or Maldon.

"Events like these are vital fundraising events for our branch and help to raise money which will be used directly to help animals in Essex.

"We’ve been changing industries, laws, minds, and animals' lives for 200 years.

"Together, there are actions, big and small, we can take to create a better world for every animal."

All events are free and more information about the fun days is available at rspca-midandnorthessex.org.uk.
