NEW speed restrictions could be implemented in various Colchester streets as revealed through a new bid by the county council.

Essex Highways has revealed a traffic regulation order proposal for a 20-mile-per-hour speeding restriction to be implemented in five streets in a housing estate in the Mile End ward.

Tranquillity Grove would be affected by the order and the 20mph restriction would be for the entirety of its length, including any private drives.

Maigold Avenue, Heritage Drive, Rosemoor Close, and Alistair Day Way are all situated closely together and will have the new speeding restrictions implemented as well.

A statement of reasons document listed on Essex Highways’ website explains the reason for the new proposal.

It said: “This will facilitate a safer pedestrian environment and improve safety for all residents, children, and visitors to the area.

“It is Essex County Council's policy new housing estate roads are constructed to ensure, as far as is possible, vehicle speeds are 20mph or below.

“This is done via the introduction of a 20mph zone and a variety of physical measures.”

The proposal is open to feedback and the closing date is June 7.
