Families visiting Colchester Zoo have given positive reviews about the new dinosaur exhibit, featuring animatronic prehistoric giants.

The new area is situated where the previous birds of prey display area was, opposite the lion enclosure.

Lauren, mother to Freya, aged two, and April, ten months, found the exhibit really enjoyable and the trio of zoo gold pass holders are keen to come back and enjoy it all again.

Lauren said: “We have a pass so we come here quite a lot. At the beginning Freya was quite nervous of the dinosaurs but now she loves them. Her favourites are the babies.

“She is a big fan of dinosaurs, so we always make sure to come here and we love how interactive it all is. We love it and have really enjoyed our time here.”

The adorable baby dinosaurs can be found in the palaeontology hut at the end of the trail, alongside interactive games.

A carbon dating simulator, fossil scanning database, interactive fossil area and a wall full of insect holograms can also be found in the hut.

Another family exploring the new dinosaur area were Fran Marcus, Keith and Melody Bradley, Quentin, aged six, and Rowan, three, who travelled all the way from Ipswich.

Fran said: "We come a lot, and Quentin and Rowan are big fans of the dinosaurs and we think it is set out so well.

"We all love the ones that move the most and how the fences are glass so everyone can see the dinosaurs.

Melody continued: "It is landscaped beautifully and it took a long time to do but it is so worth it. It is just so attractive.

"It's really clever how there is all the water with the fish and the steam, it really adds to the whole experience."

Rowan liked the T-Rex the most and is hoping to hatch his very own T-Rex from a toy egg.

Melody said: "He is trying to hatch a T-Rex egg at home and it's starting to crack!"
