THE Roman and Medieval Festival is set to take over Lower Castle Park this weekend.

Both periods of history will be celebrated by showcasing the life and technology of people from the time.

The Colchester Medieval and Oyster Fayre is working with the Roman Festival again this year to form the joint event.

The festival boasts a combination of food and craft stalls, historic re-enactments and drink - including mead.

Festival director Don Quinn said: "There will be a wider range of locally produced food to showcase the excellent things available in the Essex region.

"There will also be some terrific re-enactments which showcase aspects of historical life.

"Roman and medieval technology and clothing will be strewn throughout the festival - it's amazing how many things of the past still resonate today."

Children will also be able to dress up as both Roman and medieval characters.

Don added: "In these difficult times, the tickets are a bit of a bargain for a nice family day out.

"We want children to get a chance to see their history."

Adult tickets are £10 or £15 for a weekend pass. Children aged 14 and under enter for free.
