THE Harwich Triathlon takes place this weekend, with athletes taking on swimming, cycling and running challenges.

In the junior triathlon children aged eight will do a 50m pool swim, a 1km cycle on grass, and a 600m run.

Children aged nine to 15 will do a 150m pool swim, 2km bike ride and a 1.2km run.

Entry for children costs £5 which includes a junior British Triathlon Race pass, and children also need a road-worthy bike and helmet.

Anyone over the age of 15 can take part in the sprint triathlon which will start with women first and then men.

The adult swim will start after the juniors at about 9.30am, with the 24km bike ride taking part around the coastal peninsula of Harwich with “scenic views”.

The 5km run route is along Dovercourt promenade with “sea views and no hills”.

Entry for adults is £35 plus a £5 licence.

The triathlon was first held in 2004.
