THE winner of the Gazette's Pet Idol competition has been revealed.
Three-year-old collie terrier and poodle cross Oakley has been crowned as the winner the contest.
Submitted by owner Heidi Page, Oakley is said to have a mischievous side to him but is extremely friendly.
Heidi said: “He is so friendly, with humans and with other dogs, I can take him anywhere and I don’t have to worry about him around anyone.
“He is in the habit of stealing laundry at the moment and putting it in the garden, as well as other things like the remote control.
“For winning the competition we bought him a new toy squirrel.”
The squirrel toy was bought out of the prize for the Pet Idol competition, which was a £50 Tesco shopping voucher.
The Gazette was on the lookout for the region's very best pets, with many entries sent in.
The competition was open to animals of all shapes and sizes, whether it was a dog, cat, lizard or something a little more unusual.
Oakley will no doubt love his new crown and will be the talk of the town after his big win.
He has been gaining lots of attention from the family.
Heidi knew that Oakley could have a chance of winning. And with the cute photo that secured his victory, it is no wonder why.
The chance to apply ended on April 30. Our editor then decided on some of the cutest applicants, and they were posted into the paper on May 9, which then resulted in readers choosing which was their favourite.
It was a brilliant way to highlight the unconditional love our pets give daily and a chance to show all the wonderful things your animal gets up to.
Oakley will no doubt be excited to have all year to celebrate his win.
