A ‘DANGEROUS offender’ who repeatedly stabbed his friend in broad daylight has been jailed for nine years.
John Garrett attacked his victim in Tiptree in July last year after robbing a nearby Shell garage.
The defendant appeared in court via video link from HMP Chelmsford after admitting one charge of robbery and one charge of wounding with intent.
Garrett, 55, of Elm Close, Tiptree will serve a further eight-and-a-half years on licence and will be subject to immediate recall to prison if he commits any further offences, Chelmsford Crown Court was told.
Sentencing Garrett, Her Honour Judge Caroline Loram said: “This was not a confrontation gone wrong.
“You gave him not chance to defend himself – you were moments away from killing him.”
