AN inclusive pop-up to celebrate Colchester’s LGBTQ+ community’s creativity and diversity has opened.

Kaleidoscope, a non-profit project based in the city, has opened a month-long pop-up event in Culver Square.

Running Friday to Monday throughout June, the event features interactive experiences including an art gallery, poetry wall, drag costume display, cosy corner, and craft spaces.

The pop-up is also selling items made by queer creatives based in Colchester.

The project’s founder, Tom Stock, said: “I'm so happy to have support from Culver Square and Colchester Council to bring some rainbow magic to our city this June.”

The pop-up was opened by Colchester mayor Lesley Scott-Boutell.

She said: “It was a very vibrant exhibition. The artwork is good and the poetry where people had expressed their feelings was very moving.

“I’m all about inclusivity – we shouldn’t judge or be pre-judged.”

The project will collect donations for Colchester-based charities, including Colchester Pride, Open Road, the OutHouse, and Colchester Engagement and Next Steps, throughout the month.

Culver Square centre manager Dave Robertson said: “We believe in creating a community that celebrates diversity and inclusion, and this event aligns perfectly with our values.”
