A NEW nightlife experience is set to launch in the heart of Halstead and its founder says is “overwhelmed” with the positive response to its forthcoming exclusive opening launch event.

Bamboo Essex, a new bar and restaurant, in 24 High Street, is set to have its launch event on June 29 at 8pm to a VIP guestlist.

Dean Curtis, 53, who grew up in Hedingham and later moved to Halstead, is the founder of the 130 to 150 capacity venue.

He’s gained a wealth of experience in the hospitality sector after starting in the industry at 24, before pursuing other career paths, and now returning to the industry.

Over the last couple of years, Dean has been working with a business partner from London on bringing something special to Halstead, thus Bamboo Essex was born.

“I want to bring the West End to Halstead, we’re trying to give people something a bit different to come to," he said.

“There’s nothing like this for miles around here.

“I’m excited but apprehensive about the launch, the response we’ve had is quite overwhelming, everyone has bombarded us asking how to get on the guest list for the opening night.”

Dean and his business partner have spent the year transforming the building while the top floor has been turned into office space.

The ground floor where Bamboo Essex is based, was going to be used as a office conference space but plans quickly changed and refurbishment work took place to get the venue ready.

The venue has been kitted out in a vibrant fashion and boasts a colourful theme with tigers adorning the walls.

It also has decadent light shades made from real ostrich feathers, reactive lighting, HD TVs, a dedicated DJ area.

There is disabled access from the rear, a disabled toilet and baby changing room.

When it comes to the drink menu, Bamboo Essex has a range of champagne, spirits, proseccos, bottled beer, draft beer, a range of gins and tequila, and even a slushie machine.

The food will be based on a seasonal menu, you can expect light bites during the hot summer days and “hearty meals” during the cold winter nights.

For the opening event on June 29, there will be a well-known DJ, and celebrities attending, before Bamboo Essex opens to the public on June 30.

Dean has emphasised that Bamboo Essex will be a place for friends, family, and anyone.

He said: “You’ll have a nice warm environment, friendly staff, it’s a setting where you can enjoy yourself.

“Everyone will be treated the same whether you are 21 or 61, everyone is welcomed the same and goes by the same rules.

“We’re trying to welcome everyone and give them an experience like the West End.

The venue, which has a smart-casual dress code, will be rentable for private functions in the future and it will host more events in the future.
