A SUPER slimmer who often felt breathless due to his weight says he has 'got his life back' and has reversed a diabetes diagnosis thanks to his new healthier lifestyle.

Carpet fitter Kevin Jackson, 64, from Colchester, was “overweight” at 16 stone 11lb.

He has now lost an impressive three-and-a-half-stone, more than 20kgs.

Prior to joining the Shrub End Slimming World group in January 2023 on the advice of his ex-wife and Slimming World Consultant, Lisa Wright, Kevin struggled to complete everyday tasks due to his weight.

He had been diagnosed with type two diabetes in August 2022 and had previously undergone an operation for a serious bowel condition, both of which impacted his lifestyle.

Kevin struggled to bend down on the floor or even reach his feet to put socks and shoes on.

He would constantly drive everywhere and often felt breathless after walking or even simply standing watching his son Teddy’s football matches.

Kevin said: “Being overweight impacted on so many aspects of my life.

“I knew Lisa and Teddy were both concerned about my health and when Lisa told me she was going to become a Slimming World consultant I knew it was time for me to do something about my weight.

“The welcome I received from fellow members and Lisa at her group was incredible.

“We share recipes and ideas for getting active, and it’s useful to get tips from other members who’ve also been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

“Although this year has undoubtedly been tough for everyone, the motivation I get from group has helped me stay on track with my weight-loss journey and I feel like I can take on the world now.”

Since January last year, Kevin has been supported by his diabetes healthcare team and swapped sausage rolls and pasties for wholesome meals such as chicken, rice and vegetables.

Now, Kevin has reversed his diabetes diagnosis, achieved his target weight, and been awarded the Man of the Year award from his Slimming World group.

He has also become far more active and no longer needs more surgery for his bowel.

He said: “Thanks to the changes I’ve made my health has improved dramatically and the doctor says I show no symptoms of type 2 diabetes, I’ve got my life back and I couldn’t be happier.

“I choose to walk whenever I can now, including watching Teddy play football, you’ll find me standing at the sidelines cheering him on.”
