MILTON Oni has signed his first professional contract at Colchester United.

The 18-year-old midfielder has become the latest U's youngster to put pen to paper on a new deal at the club.

Oni impressed for both Colchester's under-21 and under-18 sides in the Professional Development League, last season.

He also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Pitching In Isthmian League division north side Maldon and Tiptree, playing under current U's under-21 boss, Liam Bailey.

Oni told the Colchester United website: “I’ve worked really hard for this.

"I want to thank the managers and staff at Colchester who have been really supportive and helped me to get to this point. I’m ready to kick on now.

“All my experiences last season really pushed me and built me up for this moment.

"There has been a lot of help from Elliot Ward and Liam Bailey, those two in particular and obviously the gaffers (Danny and Nicky).”

Oni is the fourth youngster to sign a first professional deal with Colchester, this summer.

He joins Kien Connolly, Max Jolliffe and Harrison Chamberlain in putting pen to paper on new contracts and will link up with the under-21 squad for pre-season next month.
