CALLUM Powell says he wants to get Braintree Town fans off their seats after becoming the club's latest signing.

The 28-year-old has linked up with the National League new boys after leaving Southend United, where he had been since January 2022.

Powell scored 12 goals in 74 appearances for Blues but is now looking forward to a new challenge with the Iron.

 

He told the Braintree Town FC website: "I'm really excited to be here.

"The conversations with Angelo and George came about pretty early at the end of last season, coming into the off season.

"Listening to them and coming in for a meeting and a talk and listening to the project for what we're trying to do, they sold it to me really and how they want me to fit into that system and how they want me to play and be a big part of what we're trying to achieve, this season.

"It's really important, especially after getting promoted into this league and there's a big difference between this league and the National League North and South.

"Recruitment is obviously really important and the players that Angelo has brought in and the team that they're building already and everything that they're trying to achieve here and the project moving forward, it's an exciting place to be.

"It's one I can't wait to get started on.

 

"I'm not the tallest but I'm fit, I'm fast, I'm strong and I'll always make sure I give 110 per cent.

"I like to be creative with the ball, make things happen, get at players and obviously chip in by scoring goals and providing goals for my team-mates.

"I love to be on the ball and make things happen and get the fans off their seats, being an exciting player to watch."

Powell has plenty of experience of National League football and is looking to make an impact, for his new club.

"I'm keeping my targets to myself but I am ambitious and I expect a lot of myself," added Powell.

"I've got to make sure that I work hard to try and achieve that and I'll always be making sure that I do the best I possibly can to perform and to be the best version of myself possible, all the time.

"It's all about playing games and getting your fitness up and your confidence.

"I then know that my natural ability will be showcased on the pitch."
