An incident which caused emergency services to close a section of a busy Colchester road has led to a man being arrested.

Essex Police were called to St Andrews Avenue, Colchester, at around 5.45pm yesterday, June 17, after receiving reports of a car accident in the area.

The collision involved two vehicles and a section of the road had been closed-off at its junction with Greenstead Roundabout.

Motorists were having to turn around in the road due to the closure and it caused congestion along St Andrews Avenue.

The force has now revealed that a 41-year-old man has been arrested.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to St Andrews Avenue in Colchester at around 5:45pm following reports of a collision involving two vehicles. 

“A 41-year-old man from Colchester was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit.”

It has been confirmed that the those involved “did not sustain serious injuries”. 

The 41-year-old man remains in custody.
