A 'SHATTERING and darkly funny' play about how to tackle abuse from its roots is at the Mercury Theatre this week.

‘Bindweed’ is about four men who are convicted with domestic abuse offences who meet each week to undergo a perpetrator programme.

However, as the new group facilitator starts to make progress with the men inside the room, their lives outside begin to buckle.

The play was written by Martha Loader as part of the Mercury Theatre’s new course for playwrights.

She said: “I would like to give particular thanks to Jo at Suffolk Police and Glenn and Brian at Iceni, whose specialist knowledge of these perpetrator groups has been such an important part of this process”.

The show will be at the Mercury until June 22, then at the New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich from June 28 to June 29.

The show will then conclude its run at the Arcola Theatre in London from July 9 to July 13.
