Major refurbishment plans are being discussed for the playground at Colchester’s Castle Park, which originally opened in 2011.

The 10-plus years' worth of use has prompted the need for an update, which will be financed through external funding bids and s106 developer contributions.

Colchester City Council has asked residents to share their views (via an online survey which is available here) on the playground's features and equipment to ensure it fits the community's needs and preferences.

Workshops will also be held to garner feedback from residents and primary school pupils.

Participants will have the opportunity to be considered for a prize draw to win one of two family passes to Colchester Castle Museum or tickets to Putt in the Park.

The second phase of the consultation will occur during Easter 2025, with the community voting for their preferred design.

The refurbishment is planned to be undertaken in autumn 2025, with an estimated opening date set for winter of the same year.

Councillor David King, leader of Colchester City Council, said: "We are delighted to be able to secure over £200,000 in external funding towards this much-needed playground refurbishment.

"Our residents' input is vital to creating an accessible space that our children will enjoy for years to come.

"I encourage everyone to join in, take the survey, and share their wonderful ideas."

By completing a survey, residents can influence the evolution of their community playground, while also standing a chance to secure tickets to prominent local attractions.
