A WOMAN has been left with "potentially life changing injuries" after a serious crash on a busy road in Greenstead. 

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to the scene in Avon Way, at around 7.44pm on Wednesday. 

Police said the crash involved a black Ford Galaxy and a purple Ford Fiesta.

A woman was rushed to Colchester Hospital by ambulance. 

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit, and possession of a controlled substance.

He is currently in custody.

The scene was described as a “nasty accident” by residents as police used blue tape to cordon off the area.

People were alerted to the accident by sirens of the emergency vehicles and the air ambulance flying over Greenstead.

Greenstead Councillor Elizabeth Alake-Akinyemi was passing the scene shortly after the incident happened. 

She said: “I got there just after it happened, and I wasn’t fully aware of what happened.

“The people there were very concerned. It was quite distressing for the people that live nearby.

“I do wish that the person involved recovers quickly.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a collision between two cars in Avon Way at the junction with Hewes Close at around 7.45pm on Wednesday 19 June.

“A woman is in hospital with serious injuries. These are being treated as potentially life-changing.”

They continued: “If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam, or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

“Please quote incident 1097 of 19 June to ensure the details get to the right officer quickly.”
