Why Halstead Fox and Herb restaurant is a must visit

The establishment was opened by Atit Kumar and his wife, Balwinder, in August 2020, having bought the former Wisebuy store site in July the previous year.

After the last four years of business, the café, restaurant, and bar is a must-visit when in the town.

After stepping into Fox and Herb for the first time myself on a quiet weekday afternoon, I was impressed by the establishment’s snazzy décor, and well-lit ambiance.

The business has been transformed into more than just somewhere to grab a bite, it boasts a shop area if you’re looking to purchase wines, candles, tinned goods or gifts and there’s a space for children to play.

Perhaps you want to buy some food and sit down with a good book, then Fox and Herb has a dedicated area full of books to peruse and purchase.

After taking in the quaintness of the Fox and Herb, I finally sat down and eyed up the menu, as I was in need of a meal that would satisfy my lunchtime hunger.

The menu had an abundance of different options available, in the brunch/lunch area, you could select burgers, sourdough panini, Thai chicken curry rice with a tortilla, jacket potatoes, all day breakfasts and more.

Its lighter bites section includes sandwiches, vegetable samosas, filled croissants, soup, toasties, and there was even a gluten free friendly menu and children’s meal options as well.

With there being so much to choose, I opted for the pulled pork burger which came in a sourdough roll with hickory BBQ sauce, salad, cheese, and a side of chips and coleslaw.

Undoubtedly, the first bite of the burger was so flavoursome, and I easily devoured the meal alongside a glass of coca cola.

Feeling gluttonous, after polishing off the meal, I enjoyed a tasty cheesecake which also went down a treat.

In total, both meals cost less than £25, so I was delighted with the value for money I received.

As someone who lives in Colchester, I was so impressed by Fox and Herb that I would happily make the car journey purely to visit the eatery, it was just that good.
