GREEN-FINGERED youngsters are celebrating after their school was chosen to receive £1,000 worth of "gardening goodies" from Gardeners' World presenter Adam Frost.

Lexden Primary's donation from the Westland New Horizon Fund includes gardening products and aims to help the school improve its outdoor spaces.

The school is the first to benefit from the fund this year, with TV gardening personality Adam Frost choosing their application.

The school's outdoor projects include upgrading the school garden to allow pupils to grow their own vegetables and converting an unused area into a sensory and wildlife garden.

Adam said: "Lexden Primary School’s submission for the New Horizon Fund was captivating.

"I hope the donation of gardening goodies they receive from Westland will help to bring all the projects the staff have planned this year to reality."

Headteacher Alex Candler said: "The donation from the Westland New Horizon Fund will help to create a lasting legacy for children not only at the school now but for future generations.

"Our pupils will be able to develop an understanding, appreciation and a love for the natural world.

"The garden will provide a haven to help support the social, emotional and mental health needs of our community.”

The New Horizon Fund supports community gardening projects throughout the UK and Ireland.

It grows with every sale of Westland's New Horizon peat-free compost, helping to support other community projects.
