Five people will face a trial at Ipswich Crown Court after being charged as part of a probe into a high-value theft in Colchester.

Following an incident on June 21 at the Vineyard Street car park, where a group of five people was allegedly involved in the theft of high-value jewellery.

Victor Chavez Gutierrez, 37, of Stroud Green Road, London; Jhon Brayan Alvarez Quiroga, 25, of no fixed address; Martha Gutierrez, 44, of no fixed address; Catherine Olarte-Avendano, 37, of Montagu Road, London and Gallardo Guillermo, 69, of no fixed address, have been charged with theft from a motor vehicle.

They appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, June 24, where the case was referred to Ipswich Crown Court.

The case has provisionally been given a warned list plea and preparation hearing date of the week commencing July 22.

This means the case could be heard throughout that week, as no specific date has been set yet.

Essex Police, who is investigating the case, said, a woman was carrying a bag of high-valued jewellery when she was approached by a group when returning to her car.

The group spoke with the woman and a number of members of the public.

When the group left the car park, the woman realised a bag was missing from her car and the police were called.

Essex Police say a vehicle was later stopped on the A12 near Chelmsford where items including jewellery were found.
