TWO students from Colchester and Manningtree have received awards at the annual Eastern Education Group (EEG) celebration of achievement event.

Oliver Jenkins, 18, from Manningtree, who is a performing arts student was awarded the principals choice award.

Oliver who attended West Suffolk College, had 100 per cent attendance and had to travel 30 miles each day.

Most notably he has been part of two Christina Aguilera music videos and many productions at his college.

He will now be heading off to the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London.

Oliver said: “I was told I got this award for the progress I’ve made and the work I’ve put in.

Winning this is quite big thing, I’ve obviously done something right, I’m proud of myself and my hard work has paid off.”

“I learnt so much in such a short space of time and I’m thankful for the tutors.”

Dee Lindsay, 18, from Colchester, also received a community champion award for her efforts in supporting the performing arts department at One Sixth Form College in Ipswich.

 Dee said: “It means a lot to win and I’m really happy.”

Oliver and Dee were two of 32 students who were recognised from across the EEG.

The event is designed to shine a light on success across the EEG, with the awards recognising strength, sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Some other awards included outstanding young learner and rising star.

The awards took place during ongoing success for the EEG during the last 12 months as they have seen the opening of the new facilities such as a state of the art XR lab.

Chief Executive of the EEG Dr Nikos Savvas said: “Tonight is one of my favourite nights of the year.

“I love celebrating the hard work, dedication and effort that so many of our young people have put into their studies.

“Many have gone above and beyond and it is important we recognise them. Dedication is the cornerstone of achievement.

“Our students have demonstrated extraordinary dedication, investing time and effort into their studies, often balancing numerous responsibilities.”
