INSTEAD of going to a chain store for a sweet treat fix, why not support a local business and go to an independent bakery in Colchester instead.

Here are three of the best independent bakeries in Colchester as according to Tripadvisor with results for chain bakeries being excluded.

Twisted Treats

At the top of Tripadvisor’s list is Twisted Treats, a bakery in St Botolph Street, right in the heart of the city centre.

This café-style bakery has outdoor setting, vegan options, and is also dog friendly.

Hannah said the “team was just wonderful” for an Easter event.

While another review said it was the “best place for treats in Essex”.

Dani’s Deli

Second on the list is Dani’s Deli which serves Armenian and European café food for both breakfast, lunch, and brunch.

On Plough Road in Great Bentley they have baked good including “fresh cakes”.

One review by Carly said: “All fresh and amazing variety, and very friendly staff”.

“My kids loved it.”

Third on the list Victoria Yum on Red Lion in the city centre.

They offer a click and collect for buns and a box of doughnuts from £8 as well as tiered cakes and bigger cakes which measure 12 inches in diameter and 5 inches tall.  

If you also fancy getting in store and trying one doughnut out before you order, they retail at £4.20.

Victoria Yum also make all of their own bread, which is all Sourdough.
